When can I participate in Wayne Advantage-Macomb?

The program is open to any student who meets Wayne State's admission requirements, remains in good standing, and wants to take classes at both Wayne State and Macomb during their college career. You can apply up to one month before the start of a Wayne State semester.

If you have never taken a course at Macomb Community College before, you must complete an application for admission to Macomb. Please do theMacomb Transfer Application.

Has it been a while since you opted in or enrolled at Macomb? Please confirm you are still in WA-Macomb by emailingwayneadvantage@wayne.edu.

Do I have to take classes at both schools every term?

No. You can take classes at either school at any time. You must be enrolled at either Wayne State, Macomb, or both on the first day of the semester or you will be opted out of the Wayne Advantage-Macomb program. This does not apply to the spring/summer semester.Please contactwayneadvantage@wayne.eduto confirm you are still in the program.

A great aspect of this program is that it opens up more enrollment options by using two schools' schedules of classes.

How does tuition work?

For your Wayne State courses, you will be charged the Wayne State rate. For your Macomb courses you will receive the Macomb rate. You will receive a separate bill from both each institution.

How do I register at Macomb?

Wayne and Macomb have two separate registrations.Macomb Community College will require you to either pay up front for your courses or sign up for the NelNet payment plan.It is IMPORTANT to stay registered in your Macomb courses.Courses that start later in the semester still need to be registered prior to the census date.

Am I a Wayne State student or a Macomb student?

As a Wayne Advantage-Macomb student, you are a student at both schools and can use resources on both campuses.

Can I do this program with another community college?

No. This program is specific to Wayne State University and Macomb Community College.

Will all of my courses transfer from Macomb to Wayne State?

Only those courses deemed transferable by Wayne State will transfer. View thetransfer equivalency table and transfer plans for Macomb Community Collegeto find out which credits will transfer. Standard transfer credit policies are enforced.Students cannot retake a course at Macomb that they previously enrolled in at Wayne State.

How many credits will transfer?

All college-level classes from regionally accredited colleges with a grade of 2.0 (C) or above will transfer. There are no specific limits to the number of transfer credits. However, each academic program has specific requirements that must be satisfied. See your academic advisor or transfer advisor for more information.

Courses will transfer automatically at the end of the semester. It usually takes until the end of the final month of classes for courses to be transferred. For example. Courses in the fall will be transferred near the beginning of January.

If you are receiving the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) – you must submit a transcript with the MTA endorsem*nt.

Can I receive a scholarship?

You may apply for scholarships offered by Wayne State. Scholarships awarded by one institution may only be applied at the institution that made the award.First-year and transferstudents awarded a scholarship at Wayne State must be enrolled full-time at Wayne State in their first semester to receive the scholarship.After your first semester,you may receive an awardproportional to your enrollment at Wayne State. To retain your scholarship, you must complete the required number of credit hours.More information about both freshman and transfer scholarships is available on ourscholarshipspage. Wayne State scholarship funding will not be applied to Macomb courses.

How do I apply for financial aid if I take classes at both institutions?

When you enroll in Wayne Advantage-Macomb, your financial aid will be processed, awarded, and distributed by Wayne State. Please communicate with the Wayne State financial aid office.This occurs regardless of where you enroll. For students enrolled at both Macomb and Wayne State in a given term, financial aid will be calculated based on your combined credit hours.Non-transferrable and waitlisted courses will not be considered for financial aid.Questions regarding financial aid can be directed to the Wayne State Financial Aid Office at 313-577-2100.

Financial Aid is processed about one month after the Wayne State semester begins.

For students who receive the Wayne Access Grant, Heart of Detroit, and Wayne State Guarantee, It is not recommended to enroll in Wayne Advantage-Macomb.These listed programs are only for Wayne State courses.If you have financial aid, please check with the Wayne State financial aid office to see if your package is eligible for Wayne Advantage- Macomb.

Michigan Reconnect is also not eligible with Wayne Advantage-Macomb.

**If you are taking vocational or associate of applied sciences credits at Macomb, you will only be eligible for financial aid if you are in an engineering technology, computer technology, information technology, or construction management degree.

Will financial aid cover all my classes?

Your financial aid at Wayne State may reimburse you for courses taken at Macomb that count toward your degree program at Wayne State. Financial aid will be disbursed to Wayne State courses first and on the Wayne State schedule. If you have an overage, you may receive a refund. Classes outside of your degree requirements and those that do not transfer to Wayne State will not be considered when aid eligibility is calculated. You must be opted into Wayne Advantage-Macomb for the term you are trying to receive financial aid in.

Are there any students who are not eligible for Wayne Advantage-Macomb?

Yes, if you fall into any of these categories, you are ineligible for the program:

  • International students on F-1 or J-1 visas
  • For some club sports participants, if the governing body prohibits concurrent enrollment participation
  • TIP Phase I students
  • Graduate and post-bachelor students

What about placement tests?

Students are required to take appropriate placement tests at Macomb and Wayne State. Placement tests do not transfer to either institution. If you are transferring to Wayne State, make sure that we receive all of your updated transcripts. Transfer credits may waive some placement tests. Please reviewWayne State Placement Testing policiesfor students with transfer credits.

It is recommended that Wayne State students who want to attend Macomb meet with a Macomb advisor. Emailaskanadvisor@macomb.edufor more details, and expect to provide a copy of your Wayne State transcripts to determine if/what placement tests are required at Macomb.

How do I opt out?

Students who no longer want to be in the program must opt out by the semester deadline. Most students opt out because they do not want to dual enroll and want to receive financial aid directly from Macomb Community College. You will automatically be opted out when you graduate from Wayne State.
