Developer Argonaut Games has risen from the ashes, and the first game on its agenda is a remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. The project (and developer's return) was announced back in August, and now we finally have confirmation of platforms — including both PS5 and PS4.

The news comes via the above new trailer, which features a bunch of fresh gameplay footage from the remaster. The cult classic PS1 platformer's revival is still on course for release in 2024, though there's no firm date in place yet.

In addition to enhanced visuals and performance, the Croc remaster includes some neat new features. It includes modern-style controls to allow for a smoother experience, though tank control die-hards can still opt for that if they choose.

On top of that are numerous visual filters to mess around with, and the Crocipedia — a robust "digital museum" providing lots of insight into the making of Croc. It's set to include "design documents, concept art, animation tests, pre-release music tracks, and exclusive interviews".

Again, there's no date in place yet, but there also isn't much of 2024 left, so the game is seemingly right around the corner.

Only played it at a friend's house back in a day, never managed to get a copy myself. Totally will get this one, I love 3D platformers and there are too few of them now.

@riceNpea It's a remaster of a ps1 game. I wouldn't have sky-high expectations graphically anyway. It's more of a nostalgia trip and updated controls than anything (Which I literally can't wait for)

Never heard of it but it looks like a poor man's Spyro. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

I'm bummed that it's not a Croc: 1+2 remaster, I never did play the 2nd game.

I remember owning it on PS1 but can't honestly say I remember that much about it.

Looks pretty cool anyway so definitely interested.

You can never have too many decent 3D platformers

Not everyone is into 1st person shooters or massive open world games, so there's definitely a market for these types of games and Playstation doesn't currently have enough of them IMO (on PS5 at least)

@GreatAuk Croc came out a year before Spyro and they're not a like at all Spyro is big and open and Croc's levels are more straightforward akin to something like Crash

So very excited for this, the HD remaster looks absolutely fantastic and so faithful the original. Everything looks great.
An instant day one for me for the PS5, hope it’s very successful so they can do a HD remaster of Croc 2 next

@Oram77 The Gex trilogy is getting a remaster, though, through LimitedRunGame's Carbon Engine, I believe.

@MasterVGuides Pandemonium! amazed me n my brother back in 1996. Looked amazing. Still can picture that bit jumping up the water melon looking things on the 1st level

Even though I played so many better 3D platformers in the late 90s Croc holds so much nostalgia for me. To be fair it wasn't amazing really but I still wanna play it again.

Hope they have a graphic filert option as this remake looks over smoothed and has lost that PS1 visual charm

Since we bringing back PS1 classics like this , tomb raider , etc

can we get fighting force & crash bash too, and frogger

I own the original and have been playing it on emulation, and man, this game is so hard with the original controls. It's fun as hell but it sure can get frustrating when your fingers start twisting into knots. Can't wait to see how the new controls work and if it makes it too easy

Heard about this one a month or so ago. Was a childhood favourite of mine and my sister's. Will definitely grab it with the new controls!

@nomither6 Frogger 2 Swampys Revenge? I'd have some of that. I also completed most of Crash Bash, but some of the gem/ankh challenges were too hard. 😅

No more tank controls is huge for the game.
But i didn't like it enough to play it again.

@MasterVGuides
To be honest they are just doing ports of the Gex games.
Proper remasters of them could still very much happen

@nomither6
Would absolutely love a remaster of Crash Bash, Frogger 1&2, Future Cop LAPD, Mega man legends 1&2 and many other classic PS one and PS2 games
